Spain and Sri Lanka have emerged as the best-value destinations for 2013, with
Australia and South Korea coming bottom of a list of the world’s leading
holiday hotspots.
The annual Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer compares the cost of
a holiday shopping basket in 42 destinations worldwide. The basket contains
a meal for two, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a can of Coca-Cola, a
glass of wine, a bottle of water, suncream and a packet of cigarettes. The
survey found that while these eight items cost £146.93 in Seoul and £145.28
in Darwin, they cost just £36.14 in both Malaga and Galle.
